            Subject: Vandal

On a number of occasions I’ve had the opportunity to see Vandals up close and in action. I’ve seen

Jun Catacutan, John Armstrong, and Mike Seid fly in competitions, and I’ve talked to them about

their Vandals and how they perform. None of this really prepares you for the thrill of unpacking your

very own Vandal. When you’re making a close examination of your own plane, you start to really

appreciate the quality of the build, the feel of strength, and the sense that this is IT!

My plane was delivered as a RTF. It was a good thing too, because I couldn’t wait to get it out to

the flying field. It took about thirty minutes to hook up my receiver and another thirty minutes to get

my radio setup. With the first couple of easy javelin tosses I was able to get the trims set reasonably

close. Working up to full launch power, fine tuning the radio setups, and getting comfortable with the

plane took a couple of hours. I was really pleased that there was no additional weight required to get

the CG set to match my flying style.

On launch the plane feels incredibly solid. There is just the slightest whisper as the plane rips through

the air and you get the sense that there are suddenly no limits. In the air you get the feeling that you are

connected to the model. It does what you ask and nothing more or less. It is truly a thrilling plane to fly.

The seemingly exaggerated statements I’ve heard from Vandal evangelists like Jun and Mike are not

exaggerations at all. This plane is everything they and others have said it is… and more!

Geoff, thanks for using your building talents to provide models of this quality to the DLG

community and for the obvious TLC that you put into them.

Cheers,

Gary

Geoff,

This thing flies bitchen. Been tweaking the programming a little bit but man this

thing performs. I am launching higher than ever and having no problem getting

up and away. Still not super familiar with the switch assignments but should

have it dialed by this Saturday for the TPG contest.

All that I have to say is that I need another one.....it is just to good

of a model to have only one.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Geoff,

I finished the Vandal last night and took it out early this AM. There
was NO wind and the temp was around 90. All I can say is WOW!!!

The balance was right on, the trims were a couple clicks. I backed
off the aileron throws, they were just too much, made the plane twitchy.
This is the smoothest flying HLG I have ever owned. Did some camber testing,

loops and rolls and a dive test.

The plane weights 10.5 oz, throws well and cruises fantastically.
There was NO thermal activity, but I was able to do all the testing
with just launch height, and getting well over 1 minute flights.

Thanks again for getting it to me soon enough to finish

before I left. I'll be leaving early Wed. morning. & won't be

back till Sept.

George   :-)  :-)
